I come from a long line of mothers, young mothers. Five generations of women are alive in my family at any one time, until I broke the chain. My mother had me at 22. Her mother had her at the age of 20. I am 28 years old and have never been pregnant. My family members made the choice to get married and have children, but my generation has other priorities.
When I had no medical insurance, I went to Planned Parenthood. I got free condoms, birth control, pap smear, STD testing, and answers to my questions. Based on my low income, I didn’t have to pay any money out of pocket. Now with Obamacare, I am medically insured for the first time in my adult life. Now I have a PCP (Primary Care Provider). I have a doctor that I can ask questions, about more than just my reproductive health. Now I have access to mental healthcare as well. I can’t imagine a world where women are forced to become mothers, because they can’t pay the high cost of birth control or for abortions. Please don’t force us to become mothers.
